Movie Night Canceled

Monday, September 5th, 2011

As you might know we had a movie night planned at Urban Grind for this Wednesday night. The bad news is that the organiser has decided not to go ahead. The good news is that you can still watch this amazing documentary online for free. Watch HOME online for free.

Home is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The film is almost entirely composed of aerial shots of various places on Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet. Source: Wikipedia

The Story of Bottled Water

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I promise that the next Urban Grind will not sell bottled water. I have cared about this for a while and it is time I got serious about it too. The whole bottled water thing really is crazy. Just the price we pay is crazy enough. But thanks (again) to Annie Leonard we have a great little animation that spells out the situation to make it easy for us to make the decision to stop drinking bottled water. I really do hope that you check out The Story of Bottled Water. I also can’t wait to see a Doco called Tapped on the same subject.

So what does Cap & Trade mean?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

So I have tried to flog a little mini doco called The Story of Stuff for a while now and if you have not seen it yet please do… it’s relevance will be around for too long I think.

But the hot topic at the moment is Cap & Trade or some variation of that. At first I thought it was a very good idea or at least a good place to start. Now I am pretty sure it is not a good idea and fear that it might in fact be a very bad idea. I would love to hear your thoughts but first please watch the video Cap & Trade, made by the same guys that made The Story of Stuff.

Slumdog Millionaire

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

slumdog-millionaire-2

Slumdog Millionaire is 5 Stars if you don’t squirm out of your seat and leave in the first half – a few people did. This movie is brilliant, but heavy cause it is not afraid to be real while the whole time portraying a fanciful story line. The journey is worth it, but the journey is rough. This movie makes me want to talk but I should shut up until you have seen it. This movie will be over looked. Don’t let it slip by.

Can water run out?

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

This is a very interesting looking doco about the future of Water. It is said that one day we will be fighting wars over water. Man I hope it doesn’t come to that, it would be a real failing of our society. At Urban Grind I have always said, “Never deny anyone the opportunity to a glass of water or to use the toilet.” What goes around comes around and I might be real thirsty one day and having to rely on the kindness of my fellow man.
