Changed opening hours

Hello all. Just a quick note to let you know that we are now opening from 8am on Sundays for Summer, but on the flip side we will be closing early at Midday on both Saturday and Sunday till the end of Summer too. Also did you know that we have Fruit Toast now, a wicked Chai Tea and Iced Coffee made from fresh espresso. Now you do. Thanks

Change to opening hours for Saturdays

Hey all, just a quick note to let you know that we will be closing at 1pm on Saturdays from now on. Um that is all for now unless you want to talk about this.

Emma and Tom’s Juices

As of today we now sell Emma and Tom’s Juices. We still love Nudie but think that Emma and Tom’s might be better value. All the flavours are awesome with Greenpower as my favourite. So… same price, more juice. Be sure to check out their website for all the juicy details.

Closed this Ekka Public Holiday

Just a quick note to let u know that we are closed this Ekka public holiday which I am pretty sure is Wednesday the 13th. Have fun what ever you do. I won’t run into you at the Ekka - not my thing.

Chai to Take Home

chai tea So many of you have been waiting for this and here it is. You can now take our Chai Tea home with you in 200g packs. This really is an awesome Chai and we get asked a lot to sell it in take-home packs.

It is called a wet Chai which as far as I can tell has something to do with the fact that it is infused with honey. It means that we have to keep it in the fridge but it also means that the spices etc in the mix are spread evenly giving you a very consistent flavour every time. If you love Chai you really do have to try this one. $11 for 200g.

Are you ready for the change?

I’m not!

But here is a really good article about what to expect. We live in a society that is built on oil and while it may or may not be running out we can all agree that the price is going up. We feel it at the petrol pump but do we understand yet the real costs. Costs which are predicted to effect the coffee industry too over the next couple of years. I have seriously started to the about what I might have to do to keep my coffee price down.

Wake Up, America. We’re driving toward Disaster.

Once can be bad for the Environment

Once MovieI am talking about the awesome soundtrack from the perfect movie Once. It should be at your local DVD shop now. It’s a musical but don’t let that scare you. I struggle with musicals but Once is one of the best
films that I have ever seen.

So what is so environmentaly un-friendly about the sound track? It makes me want to drive my car more and alone so I can crank the volume up and sing my little heart out.

Lars and the Real Girl is a close second or is it first. I am so torn.

Sundays at Urban Grind

Just a quick note to let you know that during winter Urban Grind on Sundays will open from 9am till 2pm. Seems that the only reason I am all alone till 9am freezing my butt off is because no one else is willing to. Here’s to Sunday breakfast with the family.

Facebook

So it can’t hurt, but I might get picked on a bit for it. I am not a big Facebooker but I did notice the other day that you can set up a page for your business, so I did. I think it might have some useful tools, but it is all about getting fans. So if you are a Facebooker and you have had a good experience at Urban Grind, please consider becoming an official (Facebook) fan of Urban Grind.

There is only one Urban Grind

There is no Urban Grind West End anymore. It has been this way for over 2 years now. Charlton and I are no longer partners, and Urban Grind West End changed it’s name to Ugees a long time ago. Before I go on, I urge you to seek Charlton’s side of the story. I also want you to know that I never wanted to take this public. I always hoped that Charlton and I could just resolve this privately, but it seems that I was wrong.

About 6 years ago I started Urban Grind in West End. After a while I employed Charlton, then after a while longer I gave him a partnership. I appreciated his hard work and sense of ownership that he brought to Urban Grind. We were friends.

It turned out that Charlton and I had very different ideas on where to take Urban Grind, and our directions were not complementary. We came to a point where there was no moving forward together. By this time we had 2 shops between us. Charlton was running the already established West End Urban Grind, and I was running the new shop at Paddington. In dissolving the partnership the simplest option seemed to be to take a shop each and call it even. Due to the differing ideas though, there could not be 2 Urban Grinds. The name of the West End shop would have to change as this was the shop that Charlton was taking. Rachel and I birthed Urban Grind so that name was staying with us. Charlton agreed to this, registered and started trading under Ugees. There was a disagreement over signage though…
